Dear Tim
I was very saddened to hear of the passing of your father, Dr. Robert Sargent Shriver.
In whatever position he held or endeavour he pursued -- as the moving force behind the founding of the Peace Corps, and, together with your mother Eunice, of the Special Olympics, as a statesman, public servant, and as a beloved husband and father -- Sargent Shriver consistently showed an unparalleled commitment and dedication to the values he held dear, especially to faith, family and the fight against poverty. His idealism and the enormous legacy of the remarkable life he led will always be a source of inspiration. May it also be a source of comfort to you and the entire Kennedy-Shriver family in the days ahead.
On my own behalf and on behalf of everyone at the Embassy, please accept our deepest and heartfelt sympathies at this sad time.
Yours sincerely
Michael Collins
Ambassador
