The Corps Network joins the nation in mourning the passing of a great man, a leader in the world of national service and well beyond.
Sargent "Sarge" Shriver dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. His life is an example to us all, a model of what it means to truly serve. In addition to serving as the first director of Peace Corps, Sarge Shriver was instrumental in establishing Head Start, VISTA, Job Corps and numerous other initiatives designed to lift people out of poverty and into opportunity. His legacy continues.
Our nation has lost a great friend. We acknowledge his passing with increased commitment to service and to all that he held dear. Our hearts go out to his family and all who knew and loved him.
